Why Was The Keto Diet Invented

Ever wondered what happens to your body when you eat mostly fat? Understand how

The keto diet is considered a "fad diet" by many in the health and wellness industry. The use of the keto diet for weight loss and muscle building in the short term, on the other hand, is a relatively new use.

Nearly a century ago, the ketogenic diet was designed as a therapeutic diet to successfully treat epilepsy.

In the 1920s, Dr. Wilder was the first to propose that the ketogenic diet could help persons with epilepsy reduce the amount of seizures they have. He explored the notion that a diet high in fat and extremely low in carbohydrates would also be advantageous after seeing that fasting seemed to minimise the incidence of epileptic attacks. A ketogenic-style diet was found to be useful for controlling epilepsy in all of the tests undertaken by Wilder and his team.

Researchers experimented with the ketogenic diet for a variety of illnesses prior to the 2000s, including type 2 diabetes, paediatric nutrition, and Rett syndrome. It has recently been utilised to help with sports endurance and, more recently, weight loss.
